Formation of nonaxial segregation in a forging ingot cast in an ingot mold with a bottom part of modified shape

Results are presented from a determination of how the geometric characteristics and location of nonaxial segregation strings in large ingots are affected by the change in the shape of the ingots’ bottom part when they are cast in molds with a convex bottom plate. Refined data are obtained on the boundaries of regions affected by such segregation in the reconfigured ingots and in ingots having the normal geometry.
