Fracture of ledeburite and hypereutectoid high-speed steels

Fracture mechanisms are considered for high-speed steels of ledeburite (R6M5) and hypereutectoid (11M5F) classes. It is shown that formation of critical length cracks for hypereutectoid steels occurs as a result of not only elastic, but also significant plastic strain, and therefore work for crack g...

Zusammenfassung:Fracture mechanisms are considered for high-speed steels of ledeburite (R6M5) and hypereutectoid (11M5F) classes. It is shown that formation of critical length cracks for hypereutectoid steels occurs as a result of not only elastic, but also significant plastic strain, and therefore work for crack generation is significantly greater for steel 11M5F than for R6M5. A relationship is established between strain and work for failure with static bending on one hand, and impact strength on the other.
