Zusammenfassung: | Israel's status as a country of immigration, the complex and pervasive influence of bureaucracies in social life, the continual negotiation of the social order among diverse and competing groups, the relationship between Jewish Israelis and Palestinian Arabs, and notions of Israeliness and Jewishness. The contributing authors - including scholars, activists, and media personnel - raise complicated questions about Muslims' relationship to the media and to the non-Muslim community, navigating issues of identity politics, increasing radicalization within the Muslim population, and the growing pervasiveness of anti-Muslim stereotypes. According to Shavit, satellite television and the Internet, rather than fracturing national identities, have helped them endure, shaping a world in which national identity can extend well beyond the national homeland. |
