Zusammenfassung: | In the summer semester of 2010 students of the Institute for Ethnology of the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg analysed selected hip-hop clips from the video portal YouTube together with user comments regarding ethnic portrayals of self and others. While some videos, especially the comments which came with them, left the impression that one was witnessing ethnic conflict and observing parallel social scenarios, other videos conveyed the image of hybrid cultural practices and inter- or even transcultural understanding. The authors come to the conclusion that the videos can be interpreted as references to an intercultural metropolitan society, which does not, however, stand in contradiction to the representation of national and ethnic identification. |
