Zusammenfassung:Even though the final -i of the perfect indicative in -iit is supposed to be short in classical Latin, classical versification has an amount of examples with a long final syllable, which are of a certain extent in Ovid. Some authorities consider it as a lengthening of the short final syllable, some, as an archaic survival. However it is possible that spoken language vacillated between one perfect in -iit and another in -iit, due to the influence of contracted forms in -it. Why this involves, above all, perfects of eo and its compounds is another question we are reviewing in this article. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
