Zum Ruhelagerbau des Wildschweines (Sus scrofa L.) in einer Phase strengen Frostes

During a period of severe frost resting places of wild boar were found in an old stand of red beech with natural regeneration. Shortly after completing their nests, the animals departed upon encroachment of the observer. Described are the choice of resting place, the type of nests made for piglets in their first year of 25-35 kg live weight, and individual resting places for adult boar. The animals preferred red beech regeneration over ash or maple material (Tab.). For the construction of 7 resting places they bit off 1079 saplings with a diameter of 7 to 14 mm and a length of 50 to 200 cm (Fig. 1, 2).[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
