Zusammenfassung:Humans are not always the best at uncovering patterns from data -- either seeing patterns that are not there or missing ones that are. Consider the following pattern: OXXXOXXXOXOOOXOOXXOO. When a sample of basketball fans saw this sequence, most characterized it as a "run of luck." The sequence was generated by a random number generator -- 11 of the 21 shots, about half, were Xs. Another aberration of pattern perplexity is something called "regression to the mean," which should not be confused with "regression analysis." This happens when some above-normal phenomenon catches people's attention only to look normal some brief time later.
