"Aurora," which Cristi Puiu wrote, directed, and starred in, tells the story of an engineer whose apathy turns to murderous aggression in a difficult picture that experiments with character, genre, and theme. The film is a form of police procedural, and it is uncomfortable for viewers because of several types of nakedness and voyeurism. The film brings its main character and its viewers to the dangerous edge of nonbeing, where symbols and images end and cinema turns into the purely empirical.
