Zusammenfassung:St. Elmo Brady was the first African-American to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry in the United States, and he had a considerable influence on the development of chemistry at Fisk University and the training of young African-American students at four historically black colleges or universities (HBCUs). The amount of information about him seems to be fairly diffuse, and he deserves much more attention – the degree he earned, how he got to graduate school, the postdoctoral years, the retirement years, and his contributions.
