Zusammenfassung:With the second World Sickle Cell Day happening on 19 June, it is appropriate to celebrate our achievements. Today every pregnant woman in England is offered screening for sickle cell and thalassaemia (SC+T) and every newborn baby for sickle cell disease. Through the NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening Programme, we now know that these conditions are a significant issue for England. Overall, one in 35 pregnant women is a genetic carrier- rising to one in 25 in high-prevalence areas.
