Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Deaths in custody--Caring for people at risk edited by Alison Liebling (1996). This book consists of 17 conference papers compiled from the Second International Conference on Deaths in Custody. With a wide variety of contributors, including prison officials and staff, healthcare professionals, practitioners, and researchers, this book provides a unique international perspective on a growing public health problem. As with the first collection published in 1994, what is most helpful about this book is the realization that deaths in custody are not limited by geographic boundaries, that precipitating factors to inmate suicide are relatively common in jails and prisons throughout the world, and that the prevention of these and other deaths remains an international struggle.
