"Atheoretical partialing in survey research": Correction to McLaughlin (September 1980)

Reports an error in the original article by Steven D. McLaughlin ( American Psychologist , 1980[Sep], Vol 35[9], 851). Placement of the two diagrams was incorrect. The second diagram should appear in place of the first and vice versa. Comments on M. H. Birnbaum's (1979) critique of the work of L. L. Slomon on sex differences in earnings in the field of psychology. Birnbaum suggests that it is necessary to examine the association between sex and job qualifications, controlling for earnings. However, this procedure involves controlling for the dependent variable, a practice that would be erroneous in an experimental situation.
