The Model Template: Blank Check for Unregulated Practice or Pragmatic Guidelines for Reasonable Regulation? Comment on Belar et al. (2001)

This commentary reviews some history of health psychology to provide perspective on the importance of the C. D. Belar et al. ( 2001 ) article. Observations are then provided on the substance of the proposal for a self-regulation model and on the illustrative model itself. Regarding the self-regulation proposal, comments are made regarding the definition of self-regulation used and the core role self-assessment has in this proposal. From the illustrative model, the strengths of the proposed model are identified and discussed in terms of issues needing to be addressed. The commentary ends with some recommendations for action.
