Zusammenfassung:Research concerning the mechanisms and efficacy of psychophysiological treatments for chronic low back pain is reviewed. Despite methodological shortcomings, the literature supports the efficacy of a number of psychophysiological treatments. The mechanism of successful treatment is poorly understood. New models of pathophysiology of muscle pain are presented, and it is hoped that they will clarify treatment issues.
