On the nature of skills--a reply to Mr. Lynch

The author accepts Lynch's criticism in this issue (pp. 485-8), but emphasizes that skill represents an advanced stage of learning, and involves a change in the minute elements of the response without changing the general pattern of the response, hence is not a new act.
