Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, The Psychology of Blacks: An Afro-American Perspective by Joseph L. White (1984). This book is an insightful and revealing exposition about the experience of being black in white America. The author has integrated an array of scholarly materials to support one of the more probing interpretive analyses of black life. He also provides one of the best brief surveys of the issues that black psychologists have been challenging for over a decade. The major thesis of this book is that the life experiences and world view of blacks are different from those of whites and distinctly enriching. Author succinctly assembles the arguments against the traditional portrayal of blacks in mainstream psychology. His presentation of the issues is concise but sufficient to familiarize the student with the subject matter of black psychology. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
