Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Sociobiology and Mental Disorder: A New View by Brant Wenegrat (1984). This book is a very intelligent exposition of sociobiological theory with considerable original thinking in Parts 1 and 2, followed in Part 3 by an overview of mental disorder peppered with occasional sociobiological insights (usually presented to replace extant Freudian ideas). The book provided enjoyable reading, and at least one psychiatrist sees the consistent advantages in taking a second look at psychoanalytic explanation with modern biology (i.e., sociobiology) in mind. It's just too early to integrate the two with the authority and elegance with which it will someday be done. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) |
