Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, The Male Experience by James A. Doyle (1983). This is an exceptionally readable text on the male role in American society, more specifically its problematic aspects. While interdisciplinary in coverage, that is not to say that the author attempts any synthesis of the various disciplines dealing with masculinity. The author claims to have taken the feminist perspective in the belief that, in the broadest sense, feminism addresses issues of concern to both females and males. The wide-ranging review of the literature, the clear exposition, and the inclusion of journalistic excerpts and vivid illustrations all make this book a useful complement to the flow of texts on the feminine experience.
