A Sort of Programmed Learning "How To Do It" for Managers

Reviews the book, How to Develop Dynamic Leadership: A Short Course for Professionals by Michael V. Fiore and Paul S. Strauss (1977). This book is a "short course for professionals" aimed at first-, second-, and third-line managers. It consists of a book-like box containing six instructional units. A manager works through each unit at his or her own pace, completing a variety of exercises, checklists, case studies, tests of knowledge, and self-analysis essays. This book might (if all the exercises are done) produce managers with a specialized vocabulary and knowledge of the essential parameters of this particular theory. Whether it can produce changes in behavior, or whether such changes will improve effectiveness, are open and essentially empirical questions.
