Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Advances in Educational Psychology 1 edited by W. D. Wall and V. P. Varma (see record 1974-01793-000). This book has two functions: First, it is a festschrift for P. E Vernon by some of his former students and colleagues, and second, it is a compilation from the recent past (mostly since 1960) on a variety of intellectual and cognitive topics of relevance to education. Nearly all the papers were written for this volume; two were adapted from papers delivered at professional meetings in 1968 and 1970. Despite the original nature of the papers little of either content or opinion is new. The topics and level of presentation suggest that the offerings are aimed at professional educational psychologists or developmental psychologists involved or interested in education; it is not an appropriate book for classroom teachers or administrators Like Vernon's recent work (Intelligence and Cultural Environment, 1969) the papers emphasize social and educational implications of psychological theory and data.
