Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, The Newer Therapies: A Sourcebook edited by Lawrence Edwin Abt and Irving R. Stuart (1982). The book is divided into four sections cognitive therapies, the longest section, therapy with children, which is very brief, group therapy approaches, and adjuvant therapies. The cognitive therapy section ranges from Berkowitz's chapter giving'a summary of standard behavioral modification techniques (operant-desensitization-flooding) to a brief coverage of such methods as meditation, a procedure stressing the role of religious values, and an altered state of consciousness that goes beyond self-actualization to a transpersonal oneness with the creator. The last section, on adjuvant therapies, seems to be a collection of methods and adjuncts that could not be classified otherwise Shore and Massimo describe the use of employment as a medium of therapy for alienated youths.
