Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Computer Applications in Psychiatry and Psychology edited by David Baskin (see record 1989-98788-000). The book has been divided into five important parts. Part 1 contains two chapters (totaling five pages) that briefly examine the function and form that microcomputer systems should occupy in departments of psychiatry as well as some of the important issues that need to be addressed, some of which are discussed in later chapters and some of which are not. Part 2, Clinical Applications of Computers, may be the most interesting and useful section of the book for those psychiatrists who are interested in what specific computer applications are available and what they can do. Part 3, Establishment of Databases in Mental Health Systems, contains two chapters that review the basics of creating and using a database (complete with definitions of the most basic concepts). Part 4, Computerized Management Information Systems, reviews different systems that have been designed to manage the type of data that are produced within a psychiatric setting. Finally, Part 5, Computer Utilization in Community Mental Health Centers, reports the results of a nationwide survey investigating how computers are used in those settings.
