Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Developmental Assessment in Clinical Child Psychology: A Handbook edited by James H. Johnson and Jacquelin Goldman (see record 1990-98926-000). The editors of this volume are clinical child psychologists with extensive research experience in childhood psychopathology as well as its treatment and assessment. The central purpose of the book is to acquaint readers with basic information about assessment of variables relevant to the developmental status of children. The best feature of the book is its general concern for assessing change and continuity in multiple domains. Inclusion of less familiar topics such as assessment of temperament or of the home environment are particularly worthwhile inclusions. The text's breadth of focus, however, makes omissions and weaknesses almost inevitable. There is no overview to typical problems and types of psychopathology seen in childhood and little is said about neuropsychological assessment. Overall, the book is an excellent orientation to developmental assessment. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved) |
