Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Children's Language, Vol. 7 edited by Gina Conti-Ramsden and Catherine E. Snow (see record 1990-98265-000). This volume is based on research presented at the Fourth International Congress of the International Association for the Study of Child Language (IASCL). The IASCL is concerned with both language acquisition and language use. Given its goal of fostering openness and the exchange of ideas across national, linguistic, and disciplinary boundaries, one might expect the present volume to reflect an extremely wide variety of viewpoints and topics. This volume is certainly not narrow in focus, but it does not representatively sample topics in language acquisition and use. This volume contribute to its conceptual coherence and thus to its appeal to an identifiable readership. Overall, this book contains reports of cutting-edge research that will be of great interest to those interested in language use and development during the preschool years. It is important that researchers also focus on what the child brings to and does with socially embedded input. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) |
