Zusammenfassung: | Review of the book, "Psychological Investigations of Competence in Decision Making" (2004; see record 2005-03974-000) by Kip Smith, James Shanteau, and Paul Johnson (Eds.). Psychological Investigations of Competence in Decision Making is an eclectic collection of chapters that delve into an individual's capacity to make decisions in ambiguous situations. Each of the book's eight chapters addresses decision making in a particular context or a theoretical issue relevant to decision making. This book investigates the role of metacognition in decision making, and overall it is a worthwhile read. The chapters are well written, and the research presented by the authors is varied in both methodology and rigor. Although the collection of research would have benefited greatly from synthesis and reaction from the editors, the chapters are useful for researchers of decision making and metacognition but less so for practitioners.
