Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Statistical Analysis. 4th Ed by Allen Edwards (1974). The present revised edition differs from the previous one primarily by the deletion of some sections, the addition of others, and the revision of still others. A considerable number of new problems and exercises have been added to each chapter. The topics in the book are those traditionally covered in an introductory course in statistics. A brief introduction to the analysis of variance for the case of a completely randomized design is included. Nonparametric tests, however, are not discussed except for mention in one sentence. The text is designed for the nonmathematically trained student To understand the text with all its formulas, however, two years of high school algebra are clearly needed as a prerequisite. In general, the book cannot be considered as suitable for an introductory text in statistics. If it were used in such a course, a skillful instructor would have to guide the student, and he would find the exercises in the text its biggest asset.
