Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Parental Attitudes and Child Behavior by John C. Glidewell (Ed.) (see record 1963-00913-000). This volume reports and comments on research gives promise that the oversimplified approach characterizing much past research on parental attitudes is giving way to an orientation in which there is a recognition of greater complexity and an attempt to deal with it. The chapters in the first part of this volume are based on papers presented at a conference conducted by the Social Science Institute of Washington University in St Louis in 1960 under the sponsorship of the National Institute of Mental Health. The objectives of this conference were to summarize the current status of research on parental attitudes and to suggest leads for further research. This volume represents a fruitful product of interdisciplinary discussion. The ideas developed bring together some of the insights of the clinic and the concepts and methodology of research. As these viewpoints converge, a more complex conceptual orientation more towards research on parental attitudes and child behavior should evolve.
