Review of Information Theory and Esthetic Perception

Reviews the book, Information Theory and Esthetic Perception by Abraham Moles and Joel E. Cohen (1966). This is a recent translation of the original Theone de I'Information et Perception Esthetique published in 1958. In many ways it is typical of the great enthusiasm of the middle fifties for information theory as a first-rank scientific theory. Fortunately, though, a relatively small part of the discussion is specifically tied to information theory; mostly it is an insightful treatment of the problems faced by any quantitative investigator working with esthetic subject matter.
