Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Cognitive-behavioral treatment of childhood OCD: It's only a false alarm: Therapist guide by John Piacentini, Audra Langley, and Tami Roblek (see record 2007-10041-000). As with most psychological disorders, childhood OCD is believed to have a biological, genetically influenced etiology; however, cognitive and psychosocial factors are prevalent especially when considering the role of the family in the onset and maintenance of OCD symptoms. With a straightforward, easy-to-follow therapist guide and accompanying workbook for the child, this book program addresses the negative reinforcing properties of the compulsive behaviors and the family's participation in either exacerbating or extinguishing these behaviors. Overall, this book outlines a well-researched approach to treating childhood OCD. In today's managed care, brief model environment, this book proves practical, effective, and cost contained.
