Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Advances in Clinical Child Psychology, Vol. 9 edited by Benjamin B. Lahey and Alan E. Kazdin (1986). Volume 9 has striking implications. Six of the 11 chapters deal with biological topics, from chronic physical illness to pathophysiology and biological teratogens. Topics include: use of IQ tests, attention deficit disorder, parent adolescent conflict, psychopathology and its antecedents in American Indian adolescents, fetal alcohol syndrome, and psychosocial dwarfism. The editors comment that little in the way of significant treatment innovation exists to be reviewed. Several chapters usefully update previous topics, others point to significant areas of neglect. In summary, by surveying uncommon topics and disorders that are usually covered only in specialist journals, these chapters alert the reader to new research thrusts or important clinical problems, furthermore, they often exemplify more general research issues, paradigms, and strategies that have a valuable heuristic role.
