Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Stress and Fatigue in Human Performance by Robert Hockey (Ed.) (1983). Chronologically, this is the third volume in the Wiley Series on Studies in Human Performance commissioned by the publisher's British appendage. The emphasis throughout the text is on human performance, or more broadly, on human reactions to various types of stresses, and on demonstrated methods to alleviate the stresses themselves or their (detrimental) effects on human performance. One of the flaws of this book is that the term 'strain' is missing from the text. Whether in spite of the faults or because of them, the volume does appear to meet its objectives--or at least to go far toward meeting them. Overall, it is a good book. I enjoyed reading it and would purchase it to read and to keep in my library with the confident expectation that I would have frequent occasion to refer to it.
