Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Becoming Old: An Introduction to Social Gerontology. Springer Series on Adulthood and Aging, Vol. 3 by John C. Morgan (1979). After a brief overview, the book provides short introductions to the psychological and biological aspects of aging. There is some merit to including such discussions in a text on social gerontology. Morgan has presented fragments, frequently without giving any sources to support his statements, and, in this reviewer's opinion, without providing readers with enough information to reach any well-reasoned conclusions. He does make some points that could provide important insights for both researchers and practitioners. It should be noted that the book does discuss the topics of community planning and needs assessment but does not make clear the role of behavioral sciences in these processes.
