Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Nontraditional Therapy and Counseling With the Aging: Adulthood and Aging, Vol. 7 edited by S. Stansfeld Sargent (1980). The book has four sections: one on nontraditional programs in the context of senior services; one on volunteers and peer counselors; one a somewhat more theoretical presentation of humanistic, behavioral, and pastoral psychology approaches; and a concluding chapter by the editor. The chapter entitled "Assertive Groups for the Aging" gives a major case description that is more accurately an eclectic approach to group work with the elderly than an application of assertion techniques. In several other instances, case material is presented in such a vague manner as to be of questionable value. Finally, newer therapeutic treatments and techniques that should be considered nontraditional, such as movement, music, art, horticulture, and pet therapy are not included.
