Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, The Suicidal Patient: Clinical and Legal Standards of Care by Bruce Bongar (see record 1991-98186-000). Bruce Bongar has attempted what many would consider a near-impossible task. Specifically, he attempts to provide, in a single-author format, guidelines for optimal psychological practice in the assessment, management, and treatment of the suicidal patient. This goal would be ambitious from a purely clinical point of view, given the almost limitless routes by which persons arrive at the final common pathway of suicide. Such an undertaking goes far beyond the usual book on suicide, which tends to be an edited work that draws on a number of experts to cover the field or a single-author work that explicates a more limited area, such as suicide in adolescents However, the author does carry it off.
