Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Reflections on Self Psychology, Vol. 1. Psychoanalytic Inquiry Book Series edited by Joseph D. Lichtenberg and Samuel Kaplan (1983). This book is based on a symposium held in 1980 under the sponsorship of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. A number of the original presentations have been significantly expanded and/or revised for publication. Kohut's contributions were recorded, transcribed, and edited with the assistance of colleagues, and the final editing was accomplished after his death. His essay appears as the last section of the book, "Selected Problems of Self Psychological Theory." The format of this section includes two presentations of psychoanalytic case material from the self psychological viewpoint (by Anna Ornstein and Joseph D. Lichtenberg) paired with commentaries from more classical analysts (Helen Meyers and Nikolaas Treurniet, respectively). The fifth section contains papers on the implications of self psychology for psychoanalytic theory. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved) |
