Zusammenfassung: | In From Freud's Consulting Room (see record 1994-98158-000), Hughes's provocative thesis is that Freud, by fashioning novel solutions to traditional philosophical problems, secured "space for an unconscious domain in a scientific age" (p. 168). The internalist-externalist positions Hughes takes in her historiography are reductionistic, dismissing contextual understanding. The resultant re-reading of Freudian cases is engaging and at times provocative, but not convincing. This work will please those who hold hard to the view that Sigmund Freud forged psychoanalysis out of the smithy of his own soul. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved) |
