Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Psychological Risks of Coronary Bypass Surgery by June B. Pimm and Joseph R. Feist (1984). This book is an account of an ambitious attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of crisis intervention counseling in alleviating postsurgical depression for 102 patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery (CBS). One of the book's many strengths is the thoroughness and care with which the study was conducted. Nevertheless, there are some weaknesses as well. Most important, the authors tend to pick and choose from the data so as to present the findings in the best light possible. The authors do well what they set out to do--to evaluate the effectiveness of crisis intervention counseling for alleviating depression in CBS patients.
