Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Innovative Interventions in Child and Adolescent Therapy edited by Charles E. Schaefer (see record 1988-97830-000). Schaefer has assembled a diverse group of therapist-authors who have expertise in the application of numerous nontraditional procedures in child and adolescent therapy. As Schaefer aptly notes, these are not likely to be taught in clinical practice and may, in fact, be unfamiliar to most readers of the book. Each chapter is presented in a standardized format, including the theoretical foundations of the procedure, detailed instructions in its implementation, and, finally, a case illustration. Although most of the techniques that are presented are unusual, the inclusion of topics such as relaxation training and biofeedback procedures with children and adolescents is rather surprising. The strength of this book clearly lies in its ability to publicize and bring attention to a variety of therapeutic interventions that may hold considerable promise for those professionals working with children and adolescents. Hopefully, this book, with its oftentimes rich clinical detail, will serve as the impetus for reaching the goal of providing the most effective interventions for clinical problems.
