Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Psychological Theory and Educational Practice: Human Development Learning and Assessment by H. S. N. McFarland (see record 1973-09997-000). Written as a "critical introduction to the psychology of human development, learning and assessment" for students of education and teachers, Mc-Farland's text deals with a wide range of concepts and topics within its 300 pages. While the pattern of organization of the book and many of the illustrative examples reflect features and problems of the British educational scene, the chapters on development, in particular, have a wider interest and relevance. The author's discussion does, as he intended, venture to advance "a good deal of practical suggestion," particularly in areas where theoretical concepts and empirical research leave major gaps. His practical wisdom, together with his deftness in illustration and clarificatory use of analogy, contribute in many chapters to a freshness and readability that his readers will appreciate.
