Zusammenfassung:Reviews the book, Speech Motor Dynamics in Stuttering edited by H. F. M. Peters and W. Hulstijn (see record 1987-98410-000). The long-term favorite concepts of stuttering, particularly in the 20th century, have heavily favored some psychological interpretation of the disorder. This book is a compilation of 31 papers presented at a conference (bearing the same title) held at the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, in the summer of 1985. One of the parts is a historical perspective consisting of a review of relevant publications, appearing within approximately the preceding 10 years, that shifted the orientation to stuttering research in the direction followed by the investigations to be reported in the conference papers. Another paper contains three papers addressed essentially to relatively recent theoretical concepts of motor control, for nonspeech as well as speech activity. In general, the book should serve as a valuable reference source for anyone having a research or theoretical interest in stuttering. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
