Motivation Revised

Reviews the book, Understanding Human Motivation (Rev. Ed.) edited by Chalmers L. Stacey and Manfred F. DeMartino (see record 1964-07238-000). This revised book of readings is a considerable improvement over the first edition. A new section of six papers on motivation and emotion, centered primarily around Leeper's views and resulting criticisms, helps to fill a significant omission in the first edition. The inclusion of an extensive list of references for each of the nine sections adds considerably to the usefulness of the book. Within sections there is somewhat more coherence than can be found in the book as a whole. There is considerable unevenness among the articles in conceptual level. Although the book does not achieve some of the goals the editors set for themselves, this edition is a significant improvement over the first and better than many books of readings.
