Zusammenfassung: | Reviews the book, Personality Theories: A Comparative Analysis by Salvatore R. Maddi (see record 1970-12559-000). The rational, empirical, and comparative analyses of the theories discussed are the book's major contribution. The presentation of each theory is clear and succinct but does not differ significantly from previous works. The bulk of the research reviewed, furthermore, is dated and has been presented in many places before. The book is divided into discussions of core and peripheral characteristics. The core of personality is seen as those inherent potentialities which exert a long-term influence on behavior and which an individual shares with his fellowmen. The author's style is clear and precise, although his tone is perhaps here and there slightly condescending. Concepts are well defined and integrated but somewhat sparsely illustrated. This book book should serve well as an introductory text in personality theory. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved) |
