Zusammenfassung: | Reviews Stimulant Drugs and ADHD: Basic and Clinical Neuroscience, edited by Mary V. Solanto, Amy F. T. Amsten, and F. Xavier Castellanos (see record 2001-16577-000). This book is an ambitious, even courageous, attempt to pull together evidence from the basic and clinical neurosciences that may ultimately help explain how stimulant drugs act to reduce the behavioral and cognitive symptoms associated with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The volume itself contains a number of important insights into brain-behavior-stimulant relationships. That said, however, the seven densely packed chapters in the basic neuroscience section are likely to prove heavy going for readers lacking a solid neurobiological background. Several chapters and sections of the book will be of particular interest to clinicians working with children and adults receiving stimulant treatment. Overall, the editors deserve considerable credit for spurring future collaborations between neural and cognitive scientists that may lead to further insights into stimulant effects in ADHD.
