Zusammenfassung: | Emery discusses how the author of TALES OF THE R.I.C. was identified. Only in 2003, with the publication of the memoirs of the Irish civil servant A. P. Magill, could the author of the Tales be identified. When discussing republican hunger strikes in Belfast prison in the early 1920s, Magill mentioned the prison governor, "Major Long" (author of Tales of the R.I.C.). This "Major Long" was Aubrey Waithman Long, born in Buxton in 1875 and educated in Marlborough College. Here, he also assesses Long's TALES OF THE R.I.C. |
