Preface

The proceedings of The 2nd International Conference and Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Limnology Society (SMILS II) in conjuction with The 4th International Conference on Tropical Limnology (TROPLIMNO IV) are eventually arranged. The conference was held back on December 6-7, 2023 in Bogor, Indonesia. The event brought together experts, researchers, academics and practitioners from around the world to discuss current trends, advancements, and challenges in the field of Tropical Limnology.The theme of this year’s conference, “Tropical Limnology in the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration”, focused on bridging the gap between theory and practice. The sessions covered a range of topics including (1) Aquatic biodiversity and conservation; (2) Water security challenges and pressures on ecosystem integrity; (3) Paleolimnology as a tool for inland water management; (4) System dynamics (physical and biogeochemical process); (5) Emerging pollutants: monitoring, analytical techniques, and management measures); (6) Modelling, system information and decision support tool (GIS, remote sensing, database); (7) Carrying capacity of inland waters for various uses; (8) Sustainable management of inland waters vis a vis the various development pressures on the lake and river basins; and (9) Local government and community engagement, environnmental education, citizen science, traditional culture, and wisdom.
