Management of ulnar styloid fracture with tension band wiring

Earlier approach for ulnar styloid and tip fractures was nonsurgical management; however, displaced fractures of the ulnar styloid should be treated with internal fixation. In this case report, a case of post road traffic accident fracture of ulnar styloid with distal radioulnar joint disruption was operated with open reduction internal fixation with tension band wiring. Patient gained dorsiflexion of 90º at wrist, and 90º palmar flexion at wrist at 1 year follow-up with union of the bone. Follow-up was done using Mayo (wrist performance score) which was 65% at 6 weeks (satisfactory), and 95% (excellent) at 1 year. We concluded tension band wiring as a superior modality for management of ulnar styloid fractures.
