Zusammenfassung:Architecture is a study in designing buildings that adapt to the context that already exists and can use contexts such as physical, socio-cultural, and political-historical as the basis for the formation of elements that are presented to meet human needs. Understanding this context requires a statement that is owned by an Architect to determine the response and steps taken to the context. Frederich Silaban designs his building with a response to all the context, but has differences taken in dealing with the different contexts. This can be seen from developing the buildings designed by Silaban, including the BNI 46 building in Jakarta that has an interesting connection to its context of Kota Tua. The BNI 46 Building is a building that has a mature architectural expression from Silaban and has become one of the buildings that symbolizes a turn in Indonesia’s economic state. Therefore, studying the theory of contextuality in architecture, and interviewing people related to Frederich Silaban development as an architect, we can create architectural expressions that are influenced by the context and its application in BNI 46 building.
