Zusammenfassung:In recent years, green chemistry has been accentuating the significance of protecting the environment and metallic materials in an economically valuable manner aiming to be non-toxic and eco-friendly. Green inhibitors are generally eco-friendly, bio-degradable, ecologically acceptable and renewable. Recently, usage of natural seaweed as a corrosion inhibitor is becoming popular because of its renewable properties. Reduced environmental risk, lower cost, widespread availability and high corrosion inhibition effectiveness make the sea weed extracts as suitable candidates to replace the expensive and toxic traditional synthetic corrosion inhibitors. This review presents an overview of works related to corrosion inhibition properties of seaweeds on metals using various aggressive media and highlights the weak points of the green inhibitors field as to re-evaluate the literature and address the future research in the field that still lacks validation. This review briefly discusses some of the interesting features of the seaweeds reported during the last decade.
