Zusammenfassung: | The effectiveness of machining, a gradual material removal process, depends significantly on the tribological attributes of cutting tools, such as friction, wear, and lubrication at the interacting surfaces between the workpiece, tool, and chip. Cutting fluids’ application is common in addressing machining challenges like localized heat buildup. However, due to environmental concerns, innovative techniques, such as incorporating textured cutting tools, are being explored to reduce their use while enhancing tribological performance. This study aims to comprehensively review textured cutting tools, exploring various aspects employed in turning and other machining processes and their influence on machinability. Furthermore, it will critique existing studies, identifying limitations and suggesting areas for future research endeavors. Though evaluating machining performance based on tribology is crucial, many studies lack it. Therefore, this research endeavors to enrich comprehension of textured cutting tools’ tribological characteristics, aiming to enhance machinability and stimulate further investigation into sustainable manufacturing techniques. The study highlights the need to find the optimal surface texturing and cutting parameters for best machining performance, emphasizing the critical role of texture positioning relative to the cutting tool’s edges. Concerning tool durability, the method of creating surface texture is crucial, with hardness testers emerging as a cost-effective, simple, and efficient mechanical option deserving further investigation. |
