Zusammenfassung:Cyclones are one of the equipment that is widely used for the process of separating particles from a fluid stream. Many geometric and operational parameters influence cyclone performance. Experimental and numerical studies have been carried out to determine the characteristics of a cyclone by evaluating the influence of its geometric and operational parameters. The Computational Fluid Dynamic method simulates the modified shape of the vortex finder and variations in the output diameter of the cyclone separator to determine the effect on flow characteristics and performance. The four vortex finder shapes used are Cylindrical, Convergent, Divergent, and Convergent Divergent while the output diameter variations used are DO ∅︀75 mm and DO ∅︀50 mm. The simulation results show similarities in the numerical and experimental studies. The simulation results show that the maximum tangential velocity of a square cyclone design with a diverging shape with an outlet diameter of DO ∅︀50 is 56% and a maximum pressure drop of 61% compared to a cylindrical vortex finder. Particle efficiency increases with decreasing outlet diameter
